The Medical Therapy Program provides physical therapy and occupational therapy to eligible CCS children. There is no financial eligibility requirement, only residential and medical requirements need to be met. Doctors and therapists who specialize in physical disabilities will evaluate a child’s condition and prescribe services if a child is considered eligible. Upon eligibility, services will be given at Medical Therapy Units (MTU) located in local schools. There are three MTUs in Fresno County and they are located at Garfield, Powers Ginsburg, and Storey elementary schools.

Eligible medical conditions include but are not limited to:

  • Neurological Conditions
  • Musculoskeletal Disorders

  • Muscular Dystrophies
  • Osteogenesis Imperfecta
  • Arthrogryposis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Amputation
  • Contractures Caused by Burns

Medical Therapy Program Services

Physical and Occupational Therapy Treatment

The MTUs have Physical Therapists who help with mobility such as walking and getting on and off the bed. Occupational Therapists help with movement associated with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).

Semi-Annual or Annual Medical Evaluation

An interdisciplinary team evaluates the child’s progress and at least once a year. Occasionally, the doctor will recommend a 6 months follow-up if needed.

During this visit, recommendations for treatment and medical equipment needs are evaluated.

Consultation

MTP Staff participate in Individualized Educational Planning (IEP) meetings at the request of a legal guardian, parent, or school.

MTP Staff can consult with medical providers, specialists and equipment providers to assist in getting services and equipment that your child may need and qualify for through CCS.

Transition Planning

MTP helps with transitioning your child to the next stage of development by discussing and identifying goals. The first transition planning session should be held at the age of 3. Biannual transition planning will follow at ages 14, 16, 18, and 20.

It is crucial to take part in transition planning at ages 18 and 20 as your child will no longer receive CCS services after the age of 21. Transition planning will help you prepare for the future after transitioning out of the program.
