Where can I get an HIV test?

The Fresno County Department of Public Health HIV/AIDS program provides Anonymous or Confidential HIV Antibody testing at the Public Health Department’s Specialty Clinic.

Testing is also provided on the Fresno County Mobile Unit in various locations. Hepatitis C Antibody testing is available to clients who meet specific guidelines. Please call our office (559) 600-6404 or visit our website www.fcdph.org to find out more information.

How do they test you for HIV?

Each client is counseled in HIV prevention prior to and following specimen collections. The client gives informed consent, is orally administered an OraQuick Advance Rapid HIV Antibody test, and is counseled while the test is developing. Within 20-30 minutes, the test is complete and the client receives results the same day.

How long does it take to get the test results?

At this time, clients receive same day results unless informed otherwise. The total testing process takes approximately 30 minutes per client.

Can I get my results by telephone?

No. HIV Antibody results can only be released in person and only to the client that tested. There are no exceptions.

What is the difference between anonymous and confidential HIV testing?

Testing Anonymously means that a client is tested without anyone knowing his/her identity. They are not required to provide a name or identification.

Testing Confidentially will have their results linked to their name via a signed consent form. However, all information given during both Anonymous and Confidential testing is not shared with any other parties.
