What is Substandard Housing?

Housing that poses a risk to the health, safety, or physical well-being of its occupants and its neighbors and visitors.

 

What role does Environmental Health play?

Our staff investigates and resolves complaints regarding unsanitary and unsafe residential buildings and abatement of public nuisance conditions in the unincorporated area of the County.

 

What can you do?

Renters whose homes are in disrepair should contact their landlords in writing. Landlords are required to keep their properties in a safe, habitable condition and to comply with local building codes. If you live in an unincorporated city within the County of Fresno and you would like to file a complaint please contact us by calling 559-600-3357. For complaints within incorporated cities (Fresno, Clovis) please contact your building department for assistance.

The Environmental Health Division is responsible for the enforcement of Title 15, Chapter 15.32 of the Fresno County Ordinance Code. Some violations and non-conforming conditions may require permits from the Fresno County Department of Public Works and Planning and/or the State of California Housing and Community Development Department, Codes and Standards Division.
