What is the Perinatal Services Coordinator (PSC) Roles and Responsibilities

The role of the PSC is to provide insight into the health and environment of the perinatal population within Fresno County. The PSC network with perinatal providers and community organizations to provide referrals and linkage to neighborhood services and resources. PSC position is to promote shared goals of optimal maternal and infant health.  

 

What is the Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP)?

The Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) is a Medi-Cal benefit that provides a wide range of culturally competent services to pregnant individuals from conception through 60 days postpartum. In addition to standard obstetric services, patients receive enhanced services in the areas of psychosocial, health education, and nutrition. The Perinatal Services Coordinator (PSC) is to provide insight into the health and environment (i.e. community, home, and school) of the perinatal population within their local jurisdiction and technical assistance/support to CPSP providers in collaboration with CHDP and DHCS. The PSC is to network with perinatal providers and community organizations to provide referrals and linkage to neighborhood services and resources.

 

 

 

What are the goals of CPSP?

  • Decrease the incidence of preterm and low-weight births
  • Improve pregnancy outcomes and postpartum maternal health
  • Encourage birth spacing to give future babies a healthy start
  • Manage health issues early to prevent long-term effects on children's health
  • Promote interconception care and whole-woman wellness

 

What services are available from CPSP Providers?

  • Routine obstetric assessments during pregnancy and after delivery
  • Enhanced services: health education, nutrition, and psychosocial assessments
  • Referrals to specialists for management of high-risk pregnancy complications
  • Prescriptions for prenatal vitamins and mineral supplements
  • Referral services: WIC, genetic screening, dental referrals, pediatrics, and family planning
