FRESNO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS APPROVES REVISIONS TO THE GENERAL PLAN

FRESNO, CA –Today, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved comprehensive revisions to the Fresno County General Plan. These revisions bring the County’s General Plan into compliance with several recently passed State laws relating to housing, environmental justice, and wildfire protection.

Also included is the update of the County’s Zoning Ordinance, which had not been comprehensively updated since the 1960’s. The priorities of the General Plan continue to include preserving agricultural land and natural resources, directing growth to cities and unincorporated communities, and increasing resources and efforts to assist unincorporated communities.

For over ten years, Fresno County has conducted workshops and open house meetings with the public and worked with many state and local agencies, community-based organizations, business owners, and Fresno County residents to develop the General Plan. In the last two years alone, the County has elicited public input from more than 30 countywide workshops and seven meetings in unincorporated communities.

The Department of Public Works and Planning will report annually to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors regarding implementation of the new General Plan.
