A Notary Public must file an Oath of Office and Bond with our office when their principal place of business is located within Fresno County. This must be done within 30 calendar days from the commencement date of the commission. This 30 day period cannot be extended.

You are required to submit the following documentation during the appointment:

  1. Valid Identification
  2. (2) Oath Forms issued by the Secretary of State
  3. Surety Bond of $15,000
  4. Notary Commission Certificate
  5. Filing Fee of $43.00 payable to the Fresno County Clerk. If the bond is more than one page an additional $3 fee is required. Power of Attorney added - $4.50.
    • $100 currency will not be accepted

The names and effective date must match on the commission and bond.

If filing by mail enclose a check or money order for the fee amount payable to Fresno County Clerk and mail to 2221 Kern Street Fresno, CA 93721. Oath forms must be notarized by a notary other than the filer if filing by mail.

Notary Journal Surrender

This service is offered in-person by appointment.

Schedule Appointment

  • Surrendered notary journals shall be returned to the county in which the current official oath of office is on file.
  • Notary public’s name, commission number and beginning and ending dates of journal entries must displayed inside the front cover(s) of the journal(s). Please note any name changes.
  • Name and address of person returning journal shall be included with the submission.
  • Fee of $10 payable to County Clerk is required. This is a flat fee. This is not per journal.
  • Please complete the Notary Journal Surrender Form(PDF, 68KB) prior to your appointment.
  • Notary journals can also be mailed to 2221 Kern St, Fresno, CA 93721. Include check or money order payable to Fresno County Clerk with your Notary Journal Surrender Form(PDF, 68KB).

  1. Bring a valid, government issued photo ID.
  2. Bring all documents that need to be notarized.
  3. Be sure that all documents are complete and ready for a signature.
  4. If you need legal advice, please consult an attorney. The notary public is prohibited from helping you to prepare, complete, or understand legal documents.

Cost: $15 per signature by check, credit/debit, cash, or money order. $100 currency is not accepted.
