Assessor-Recorder Announces the "Fresno County Property Owners Protection Alert" (FCPOPA)
Published on October 24, 2024
Fresno, CA. - With the increase in Real Property Title Fraud throughout the nation, Fresno County Assessor-Recorder, Paul Dictos, is excited to announce the implementation of a brand-new program called the Fresno County Property Owners Protection Alert (FCPOPA). Property owners can subscribe to this free program to stay informed when any documents are recorded using their personal or property information, alerting them to potential cases of Real Property Title Fraud.
Property owners can find detailed instructions and enroll on the Recorder’s website at https://www.fresnocountyca.gov/Departments/Recorder/Property-Owners-Protection-Alert. A property owner will need to submit their email address, name, and Assessor’s Parcel Number (APN) which can be found on their property tax bill or the Assessor-Recorder’s web page. Once enrolled, subscribed property owners will receive an immediate email notification anytime a document is recorded in the Recorder’s office that affects the owner’s registered property or matches the registered name.
“The FBI reports that Title Theft is one of the fastest growing cyber-crimes in America. I want to be a crime stopper to protect your property,” said Assessor-Recorder Dictos.
The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office is committed to combating Real Property Title Fraud. If a property owner suspects that someone has tried to fraudulently obtain title to their real property, we encourage them to submit a report to our Real Estate Fraud Unit. They can do so by completing the form at: https://www.fresnoda.org/files/sharedassets/county/v/1/district-attorney/documents/realestatefraudcomplaintform_english.pdf and mailing it to: 2100 Tulare St. Fresno, CA 93721.
