Located within the disadvantaged, rural, agricultural, unincorporated communities of Cantua Creek and El Porvenir (also known as Three Rocks), areas of persistent poverty, the project includes sidewalk improvements with an emphasis on ADA compliance. The project would provide basic amenities such as pedestrian facilities that are ADA compliant to improve community health and encourage active transportation to different destination points, such as Cantua Elementary school, places of worship, local businesses, and the Riverdale Swap Meet (located just outside the project area). Currently, the majority of the proposed project area either lacks sidewalks or has broken and uneven sidewalks. Pedestrians and wheelchair users are forced to either travel on dirt paths or in the street alongside motorized vehicles, instead of having adequate sidewalk and ADA curb ramp facilities.

Residents and visitors of Cantua Creek and El Porvenir/Three Rocks will benefit from these improvements by enjoying improved access and safety in their journeys around their community without the currently existing barriers. This will encourage them to walk, cycle, or use a wheelchair instead of using a car.

The project includes installation of new ADA compliant sidewalks, replacing damaged sidewalks and upgrading them to ADA standards, replacing non-ADA compliant ramps, and replacing non-compliant curb & gutter.

The project is currently in the design phase and is funded by $4 million in State and Federal grants.
