Fresno County Film Commission

Fresno County is located in the heart of California, Fresno County is only 3 hours from Los Angeles or San Francisco and provides easy access including the convenience of the Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FYI). Fresno County is home to a diverse variety of locations ranging from the scenic Sierra Nevada to the rich agricultural fields of the valley floor. Fresno County's natural attractions include lakes, rivers, forests and trails which allow for such recreational activities as snow and water skiing, sailing, white water rafting, canoeing, horseback riding, rock climbing, backpacking and many more!!! The county's agriculture offerings include over 360 different crop varieties - orchards, vineyards, fields, and ranches - if a location needs an agricultural setting, it can be found in Fresno County.

Fresno County is home to 15 cities and dozens of small communities, from the urban/metro landscape of Fresno & Clovis to the small old-fashioned main streets of our small cities and communities. From old fashioned turn of the century historic architecture to the ultra-modern Fresno City Hall, almost every neighborhood and era is represented in Fresno County.

The Fresno County Film Commission is available to provide assistance with location scouting and as a liaison with local businesses, government and regulatory agencies. The Fresno County Film Commission can also provide information on local lodging, catering and other service providers. With no-cost to low-cost permits, affordable locations, agreeable property owners, and old-fashioned hospitality - Fresno County would love to host your next production.

Attention local film makers:

The Roy W. Dean Grant is accepting submissions from indie filmmakers for its Fall 2024 Grant.  This prestigious grant is awarded to indie filmmakers who create unique films that make a meaningful contribution to society. 

With a legacy of supporting visionary filmmakers for over 31 years, top-rated 501(c)3 non-profit From the Heart Productions is excited to continue fostering creativity and impactful storytelling through this grant.

Grant Highlights:

  • Cash Award: The winner will receive $3,500 to assist in the completion of their project.
  • In-Kind Services: The grant includes thousands of dollars in donated film products and services. This year’s offerings including $15,000 in theme music from award-winning composer David Raiklen, $6,000 in animation from Emmy winner Charlie Canfield, $500 in expendables, grip, or lighting from Filmtools, $700 one-week DSLR camera package rental from Birns & Sawyer, and much more from our generous donors
  • Eligibility: The grant is open to filmmakers worldwide including students, with projects in the form of documentaries, short films, narrative features, or web series all eligible for consideration.
  • Deadline: Submissions are due by October 31st, 2024

Britt Penrod Award:

  • An additional $500 cash prize will be awarded to a filmmaker whose work is not only unique but also makes an exceptional contribution to society. This award is named after Britt Penrod, a steadfast supporter of independent filmmakers.
