Ashlan Ave & Palm Ave Signal Upgrades

NW View 20250220.jpg

The intersection at Ashlan and Palm Avenues in Old Fig Garden is in an urban residential setting and was previously signalized with permissive left turns only.  Both Palm and Ashlan Avenues are heavily traveled corridors.  There were already left-turn lanes on all four legs of the intersection, but no left-turn signal arrows. With the volume of traffic at this intersection, this created a lot of unnecessary idling and traffic backup for drivers at the signal, which not only contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, but also to safety issues.

Construction of the project included replacement of the existing traffic signal to include left-turn phasing on all four legs, removing an existing drain inlet and several trees, reconstructing and overlaying the existing pavement, installing four new concrete curb ramps,  installing new sidewalks with curb & gutter, and new signage, striping, and pavement markings. The intersection remained open during the entire duration of the project.

Construction was completed in February of 2025 at a final cost of $983,818.
