Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of injury for children, but proper car seat use can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury. Using the correct car seat for your child’s age and size and making sure it’s installed correctly are some of the most important steps you can take to protect them.
Car Seat Inspections
We offer car seat inspections to ensure your child’s seat is:
- Installed correctly in your vehicle
- Appropriate for your child’s age, weight, and height
- Properly adjusted for safe use
Car Seat Education Class to obtain a free car seat
We offer monthly virtual car seat safety classes for eligible participants. These classes cover:
- Choosing the right car seat
- Proper installation techniques
- Correct harnessing and positioning
Eligibility:
Participants must be:
- Resident of Fresno County
- Enrolled in a Public Health Nursing program, or receiving government assistance
How it works:
- Complete registration and pre-test
- Attend class and complete post-test
- Schedule a follow-up car seat inspection
- Obtain a free car seat at your inspection appointment

Children under the age of 8 must be secured in a car seat or booster seat in the back seat.

Children who are 8 years of age OR have reached 4' 9" in height must be secured by a safety belt in the back seat.

Passengers who are 16 years of age and over are subject to California's Mandatory Seat Belt law.

Effective January 1, 2017 - Children under 2 years of age shall ride in a rear-facing car seat unless the child weighs 40 or more pounds OR is 40 or more inches tall. The child shall be secured in a manner that complies with the height and weight limits specified by the manufacturer of the car seat.
