Urgent Care Centers

The Emergency Room (ER) in hospitals can be very busy, especially during the holidays. Always go to the ER if you have been in a major accident or for potentially life-threatening symptoms like:

• Trouble breathing
• Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
• New confusion
• Gray or blue color to tongue, lips, or skin
• Inability to wake or stay awake

 For those with non-emergency health questions and concerns, there may be better options than visiting an ER. Calling your family doctor or medical provider or going to a walk-in clinic may resolve your health concern.

If you need urgent, same day care, consider visiting an Urgent Care Center near you. A list of Urgent Care Centers in Fresno County has been made available at the bottom of this webpage. 

Telehealth

Telehealth — sometimes called telemedicine — lets your health care provider care for you without an in-person office visit. Telehealth is done primarily online with internet access on your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

There are several options for telehealth care:

• Talk to your health care provider live over the phone or video chat.
• Send and receive messages from your health care provider using secure messaging, email, secure messaging, and secure file exchange.
• Use remote monitoring so your health care provider can check on you at home. For example, you might use a device to gather vital signs to help your health care provider stay informed on your progress.

 How you get telehealth depends on your health insurance.

• If you have regular Medicare, but are not enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, visit the healthcare and coverage page to learn about options available to you.
• If you have Medi-Cal (but are not enrolled in a Medi-Cal managed care health plan), or you do not have insurance, call Medi-Nurse, a 24/7 nurse advice line, at 1‑877‑409‑9052. You can speak directly with a health professional about your symptoms and get advice for further treatment in your area.
• If you have private insurance, a Medi-Cal health plan, or a Medicare Advantage health plan, the simplest way to get treated over the phone is to call your doctor or regular provider.
  • You should not have to pay more for telehealth than you would for an in-person visit. Some health plans or providers may waive the copay.

Regardless of your insurance, you can get access to emotional support:

• Mental health and substance use hotlines, crisis lines, and other emotional support via phone are available, as well as options through county programs, Medi-Cal, and private health insurance.
