Overview

The Fresno County Infectious Materials Ordinance is designed to establish a system for the monitoring and inspection of privately funded laboratories that handle infectious agents. This ordinance seeks to ensure that these facilities operate under appropriate regulatory oversight.

  • Scope of the Ordinance

    This ordinance applies to all laboratories and research facilities operating within Fresno County that are not regulated under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). It includes:

    • All unincorporated areas of Fresno County.
    • Incorporated cities within the county that have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to allow county oversight.

  • Compliance Requirements

    Annual Inspection and Permit: Laboratories and research facilities subject to this ordinance will be required to undergo annual onsite inspections and obtain a permit within unincorporated areas in Fresno County, as well as in any incorporated cities that have established a memorandum of understanding with the County.

  • Referrals should be submitted by incorporated cities within Fresno County that have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). Fresno County staff may submit referrals for unincorporated areas.

     

  • Referrals should only be submitted for laboratories not holding a CLIA license.
