The Fresno County Infectious Materials Ordinance is designed to establish a system for the monitoring and inspection of privately funded laboratories that handle infectious agents. This ordinance seeks to ensure that these facilities operate under appropriate regulatory oversight.
Scope of the Ordinance
This ordinance applies to all laboratories and research facilities operating within Fresno County that are not regulated under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). It includes:
Compliance Requirements
Annual Inspection and Permit: Laboratories and research facilities subject to this ordinance will be required to undergo annual onsite inspections and obtain a permit within unincorporated areas in Fresno County, as well as in any incorporated cities that have established a memorandum of understanding with the County.

Important Notice
Referrals should be submitted by incorporated cities within Fresno County that have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). Fresno County staff may submit referrals for unincorporated areas.
Referrals should only be submitted for laboratories not holding a CLIA license.
